Elements of Style

I’m so excited to be designing Erin Gates’ book Elements of Style. This process has been slightly unique in that I was hired directly by her, rather than her publisher, Simon & Schuster. It has been so much fun working together so closely to make this book beautiful! The final cover is an unjacketed 3-piece case with a striped spine, foil stamping, and leopard print endpapers.

Erin made a great post on her blog about our cover process, giving a behind-the-scenes view of some of my other package proposals. Check it out here. And here’s a sneak peak at one of my favorite outtakes: a jacket with gold foil and a gold metallic printed case underneath in Les Touches!

I just finished the interior second pass corrections, and I cannot WAIT to hold this book in my hands. Erin’s spaces are to die for, and this book has 336 pages full of them! xox

SLICE Issue 13: The Unknown

Issue 13 is out and once again is chock full of talent. I also reimagined our cover this issue. I wanted a bolder presence on newsstands, so I deconstructed and redesigned our logo and set it almost full measure, bleeding–or sliced–off the top. Check it out or subscribe here.

Judging Art

I was thrilled to receive an email yesterday asking me to travel to be a judge of the 2013 Communication Arts Photography Competition. All expenses paid trip to California to look at art, yes please! But (excitingly) I’m due to have a baby right around that time, so the travel isn’t feasible. Here’s hoping for  next year!

SLICE Issue 11: Mistakes & Regrets
